Herbalist Sebastian Kneipp once said that growing Sage in your garden is like having your own pharmacy at hand. Some research suggests it helps with long-term memory, creative thinking, and attention span. Sage's botanical name comes from the Latin word "salvere", which — to no one’s surprise — means, "to be saved." Sage is my savior, its scent, my origin story.

There are over 900 species of sage worldwide, with 19 of them having their origins in California — growing along the Pacific Coast, crossing valleys, and threading their way up our mountain slopes. Among these native species are Hummingbird Sage, Pitcher Sage, Black Sage, Purple Sage, Mexican Purple Sage, and White Sage — all currently growing wild at the Estate after a Winter’s rain.
